On Saturday, March 19th, 2011 SA Recycling (SAR) along with the help of the South Coast Air Quality Management District (AQMD) marked the first date of their Lawn Mower Exchange Program. The historic green event was held at the parking lot of the Inland Empire 66’ers minor-league baseball team located in San Bernardino. By paying the miniscule $100 fee, citizens of Orange County and portions of Los Angeles, Riverside, and San Bernardino counties were encouraged to trade in their old two-stroke gas powered lawn mowers for a brand new electric powered lawn mower. The electric lawn mowers were provided by Black & Decker and Neutron and retail for about $400 at your local home supply store. In efforts to reduce harmful pollutants that gas powered lawn mowers contribute to our atmosphere and global warming, SAR and AQMD plan on having 12 more collections for their Lawn Mower Exchange Program over the course of the next 12 months. Overall, 560 gas powered mowers were acquired and filled four roll-off boxes. For future information on the next Lawn Mower Exchange Program date please go to: http://www.aqmd.gov/tao/lawnmower.html
